This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. Learn more ***************Announcement to solicit candidate pool for future hiring.*************** Major Duties/Responsibilities ~ Liaison for the interdisciplinary health professionals assigned within the Mental Health Service and the Ambulatory Care Clinics. ~ Function as part of a multi-disciplinary treatment team providing diagnosis, counseling, therapy, and treatment, to include prescribing medication for Veterans. ~ Provide professional assessment for mental illness to diverse Veterans of a population-specific environment and carries full responsibility for interviewing and counseling Veterans, and providing psycho-social assessment to promote effective treatment of common mental health conditions in the clinical setting. ~ Perform general psychiatric assessment and treatment in a multi-disciplinary setting composed of psychiatrists, psychologists, and social workers, as well as staff from other specialty areas, including nurses and nurse practitioners. Some of the Psychiatrists duty time may be spent at other outlying clinics or using telemedicine technology throughout Southeast Louisiana. ~ Work closely with colleagues to provide comprehensive state of the art outpatient mental health care, as many patients suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder. ~ Provide training to students, interns, residents, and fellows - instruct on psychosocial treatment and services available from psychiatry; assist them in understanding dynamics and the impact of psychosocial issues and problems pertaining to Veterans' health and response to treatment. ~ May conduct formal workshops and classes for staff. ~ Other duties as assigned.
