WORK SCHEDULE: Days (Mon – Fri, 8:30AM – 5:00PM; no weekends or holidays)
WORK TYPE: Full Time (1.0 FTE)
Provides seamless pre-registration based on HIPAA guidelines prior to service for scheduled ambulatory appointments and hospital scheduled admissions throughout the Geisinger Health System. Completes insurance verification. Documents any out-of-pocket expenses and acquire any necessary referrals.
Conducts outbound calls to patients to complete the pre-registration process which consists of utilizing the department scripting which includes patient identification, customer service, registration and explanation of benefits prior to date of service.
Reviews insurance benefits with patient and attempts to collect copays, deductible and coinsurance along with outstanding balance and pre-service payments to contribute to department point of service collections.
The Financial Clearance Specialist will be responsible for providing customer service excellence in a professional manner and will ultimately serve as the voice for Geisinger Health System when interacting with the public daily utilizing CICARE standards.
Performs duties to support the goals and objectives of the My Visit pre-registration department for Geisinger Health System.
Directly accountable to the Supervisor, Revenue Cycle.
SPECIFIC POSITION DUTIES:
Basic knowledge sufficient to perform recurring assignments with a reasonable degree of independence under normal supervision and after a customary orientation period.
Participates in training, as well as cross training within the department. Attends all necessary educational sessions related to job functions. To include but not limited to new as well as refresher training on departmental processes, systems and insurance updates.
Adheres to all GHS policies, procedures, protocols and standards of care.
Attends and participates in departmental staff meetings. Responsible for reading and reviewing all emails received from management and training and development.

Demonstrates time management skills effectively to perform financial clearance while meeting department productivity with a high level of customer service.
Demonstrates flexibility in response to unexpected changes in work assignments, staffing and scheduling.
Demonstrates basic knowledge of Microsoft Outlook application and GHS software systems and their integration.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or equivalent is required.
Previous experience recommended in Healthcare environment with focus on Registration or Financial Services.
Previous experience in insurance verification and insurance benefits preferred.
Overall knowledge of the revenue cycle and accounts receivable preferred.
Experience with EPIC Grand Central, Cadence, SharePoint and Patient Financial systems preferred.
Successful completion of the Revenue Cycle training program.
